Magia D’artista / Damoon Keshavarz

Magia D’ARTISTA is the title of the exhibition by Damoon Keshavarz, which will be inaugurated on Friday, November 4, at Studio Zecchillo (former Studio Piero Manzoni) in Milan.

The event continues the collaboration between YAG/garage in Pescara, the Lombardy-based space located at Via Fiori Chiari n. 16 and the Chair of Decoration at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, directed by Sergio Nannicola.

Damoon Keshavarz, an Iranian artist by origin and Lombard by adoption, shows us how the artist, through the creative act, is capable of gifting us the “magic of life.”

At Studio Zecchillo (former Studio Piero Manzoni), a series of works will be presented in strong dialogue with the history of this space. It was here that Piero Manzoni created some of the most iconic works of his artistic research, such as the Lines of Infinite Length, the Magic Bases, and the controversial cans of Merda d’Artista. Damoon Keshavarz starts again from Manzoni’s brilliant ideas in order to push even further the boundary traced by the founding father of Italian Conceptual Art. The cans are des ecrated and opened, and their contents become humus for the birth of a new “life.” Damoon Keshavarz reconverts the Manzonian process to restore to “waste material” its natural function: that of fertilizer. Essentially, it is as if this young artist were to relocate Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain into a public restroom, returning it to its original use.

Damoon Keshavarz reminds us that flowers sprout from manure, and that from art “sprout” messages and questions whose purpose is to provoke thought: in both cases, growth takes place.

Also on display are sanitary pads from which plants sprout. Through a symbol of femininity, Damoon Keshavarz provocatively gives menstruation a “second chance” and, above all, dismantles taboos related to the menstrual cycle. Here too, the artist offers an elevation of thought.
