A project conceived about a year ago from the desire to pay tribute to several renowned teachers of the city’s historic School. The exhibition will present works by some of the instructors from the first three decades following the founding of the Institute alongside those of young students from the most recent generation. The initiative was conceived as an opportunity to further explore the work of artists such as Giuseppe Misticoni, founder of the School, Angelo Colangelo, Nicola Febo, Giovanni Melarangelo, Giuseppe Di Prinzio, Ferdinando Gammelli, Giovanni Pittoni, Alfredo Del Greco, Enio D’Incecco, Dino Colalongo, Franco Summa, Sandro Visca, Albano Paolinelli, Elio Di Blasio and Ettore Spalletti, figures who significantly shaped the evolution of Abruzzese art history. Alongside the works of these masters are those of young students, who were asked to reinterpret the artistic production of these personalities who animated not only the life of the School but also the regional art system.

The exhibition project was developed through a series of online meetings held during the months of February, March, and April, as part of a pathway for transversal skills and career orientation. The sessions were led by cultural practitioners who had studied or had the opportunity to know these protagonists directly. Contributions during the meetings with students were made by art historian Antonio Zimarino, photographer Paolo Dell’Elce, and Ivan D’Alberto, director of YAG/garage. This theoretical component was coordinated together with the Centro di Archiviazione e Promozione della Performing Art (CAPPA) of Pescara, as an integral part of the program entitled Propedeutics of Contemporary Art.

The second phase of the project involved the selection of students who were asked to create an artistic work paying tribute to one of the artists featured in the exhibition. Each student was invited to use the language they deemed most appropriate to create this “homage,” attempting to interpret the works on display.

The works by the Masters come from their studios, from their families’ archives, and from the Museo delle Arti Castello di Nocciano, a museum institution that preserves an important collection of Abruzzese artists. The realization of the exhibition was made possible thanks to Alessandra Di Blasio, Duccio Gammelli, Sandro Visca, Dino Colalongo, Albano Paolinelli, the Summa Foundation, Ivan Cocchini, representative of the Museo delle Arti – Castello di Nocciano, Lorenzo Mucci, Mayor of Nocciano, teachers Luigia Maggiore, Silvia Pennese, and Antonella Dell’Elice, former students and current pupils of the Liceo Artistico Musicale e Coreutico “MiBe” of Pescara Benedetta Giammarco, Caterina Continenza, Chiara Di Carlo, Antonello Fanelli, Emanuele Dragone, Class IV C (school year 2015–16), Flavia Rosini, Lina D’Isidoro, Carola Del Villano, Davide Delli Compagni, Samuele Di Pasquale, Anastasia Miani, Ester Riga, Chiara Ventura, Davide Rapagnetta, Nina Sgarbi, and Chiara Manetta. Further editions of the project will follow this first one, with the aim of narrating the history of the Institute more comprehensively and, above all, of fostering encounters between the different generations of artists who have been trained at this prest igious Art High School.
