Alterazioni Open Call

Alterazioni is an artistic and cultural project promoted by YAG/Garage, dedicated to reflecting on the theme of mental health through the languages of contemporary art. The project emerges within the framework of initiatives aimed at promoting and supporting emerging young artists, with the goal of creating a space for dialogue between artistic research, care practices, and new forms of representing psychological distress.

At the core of Alterazioni is a collaboration with twelve mental health centers active across several regions of Italy, from Sicily to Piedmont. Within these contexts, individuals undergoing treatment were directly involved in the production of artworks. The resulting works now form a permanent digital archive hosted on the YAG/Garage website, representing the conceptual starting point of the project.

The open call invites students regularly enrolled in Italian Academies of Fine Arts, both public and private, regardless of age, as well as artists under 30 who have already graduated, to create an original work inspired by the collection of artworks produced within the participating care centers. Through this dialogue, Alterazioni seeks to foster critical reflection on concepts such as fragility, otherness, care, perception, and representation, overcoming stereotypes and contributing to the construction of new narratives around mental health.

The selected works will be evaluated by a jury composed of professionals active in the fields of contemporary art criticism and theory. A total prize fund is available for the winners of the open call; all awarded works will be exhibited in a group show and included in the annual YAG catalogue. At the end of the exhibition, the winning works will become part of the YAG/Garage collection.

Alterazioni positions itself as a space for dialogue and research, where contemporary art helps make visible experiences that are often marginalized, fostering a critical exchange between artistic practices, care, and new forms of representation.
