YAG/garage presents the solo exhibition by Stella Maria Sablone, curated by Ivan D’Alberto, an exhibition project that originates from a verse from the Gospel of Luke: “Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without knowing it” (Luke 11:44).
From this image, rich with symbolic implications, emerges a reflection on the relationship between the visible and the invisible, between surface and depth of experience. The works created by Stella Maria Sablone are not placed in the usual vertical position on the walls; instead, they are arranged horizontally, guiding the gaze downward and radically transforming the exhibition device and the way the viewer relates to the image.
The gaze no longer rises toward the artwork but lowers, accompanying the rhythm of the visitor’s steps and the time of passage. In this configuration, painting offers itself to space as a silent presence, a tension that originates from the earth and moves upward. The floor thus becomes a threshold, the act of walking turns into an experience, and the visitor’s body actively participates in a process of observation that is both physical and meditative.
The reference to the Gospel passage does not translate into a confessional reading but opens up a broader reflection on the possibility of questioning the spiritual dimension of existence. Installed in the spaces of the Church of Sant’Anna in Pescara, the exhibition presents itself as a place of passage and listening: an environment in which the pictorial gesture becomes an opportunity to explore the relationship between matter, body, and transcendence.
