YAG/garage gallery presents Acquatica, a solo exhibition by Gaia Adducchio, curated by
Beatrice Luzi and Carlo Gallerati.
The exhibition features a selection of photographs from a project comprising over one hundred images, created using disposable cameras and digitally post-produced, enhancing the grainy and vibrant texture shaped by the filtering effect of water. Acquatica was first presented at Galleria Gallerati in Rome (December 2023 – January 2024), highlighting the multiplicity of voices, attitudes, and gestures that breathe life into the project as a whole.
This new exhibition, hosted in the spaces of Sant’Anna Church in Pescara, focuses on a particular group of highly symbolic images that reconnect with the most intimate and profound sense of self-discovery as part of a greater whole, giving form and vision to what Romain Rolland defined as the “oceanic feeling.” Bodily presence, freed from gravity, appears transfigured into pure being, in a state of contemplation and suspension that seems to answer, if only for a moment, our search for meaning. Immersion thus becomes a journey toward an arcane and otherworldly dimension, driven by an unfathomable force that leads us back to where everything ends and everything begins.
Through the dialogue between analogue and digital, the artist intensifies the imagery captured on film through a treatment of color that at times becomes celestial, transforming water into sky and glimmers into astral visions — states of fullness accomplished in a forgotten time that return to us, reducing the distance that separates us from them.
