Alterazioni

We are pleased to present the group exhibition Alterazioni, a YAG/garage project dedicated to the relationship between art and mental health.

The exhibition is part of the project of the same name, developed in collaboration with twelve Mental Health Centres across different regions of Italy, with the aim of opening up new possibilities for representing, listening to, and narrating experiences of mental health through the language of art.

At the heart of the project is a permanent digital archive bringing together more than one hundred works created within the participating Mental Health Centres. Drawing on this collection, YAG/garage launched a national open call for young artists, inviting them to engage with the theme of mental health and with the images, experiences, and forms of expression that emerged within contexts of care.

The exhibition brings together works by the 20 artists selected through the open call, alongside a selection of works created within the 12 Mental Health Centres involved in the project. The resulting exhibition creates a dialogue between different artistic languages, perspectives, and experiences, offering a space for reflection on how mental health can be observed, represented, and explored through art.

Alterazioni does not seek to offer a single interpretation, but rather opens up multiple perspectives, bringing artistic research into dialogue with experiences developed within contexts of care and contributing to a broader understanding and representation of mental health.

The opening will also feature a talk by Dr Marco Alessandrini, Head of the Mental Health Centres of Chieti, Ortona and Vasto, together with Ostie, a performance by artist Mandra Cerrone, which explores the relationship between image, identity, and symbolic incorporation through audience participation.
