YAG/GARAGE - YOUNG CONTEMPORARY ART

Born out of the experience of I Giardini d’Arte di Via Caravaggio, the Young Artist Gallery/garage was established with the aim of enhancing and promoting young contemporary art. It is a well-known fact that for young artists it is far more difficult to meet collectors, be considered by established galleries, organize group or solo exhibitions, and see their work become part of a collection. Added to this is the difficulty of coming into contact with curators, critics, journalists, and cultural professionals who could offer them real opportunities for visibility. YAG/garage therefore seeks to provide emerging artists with precisely this kind of opportunity. The first step was the transformation of a garage of approximately 1,300 square meters into an exhibition space, divided into two distinct areas: one dedicated to the permanent collection and the other to temporary exhibitions. The initial core of works forming the permanent collection was assembled through a selection made from dozens and dozens of portfolios submitted by young artists. The second area of the garage was used to host temporary exhibitions, where these young authors had the opportunity to engage with site-specific exhibition projects. The temporary exhibitions were further enriched by public meetings designed to bring the artists into contact with curators, critics, museum directors, journalists, and university professors.

In 2019, the gallery moved to the ground floor, occupying an area of approximately 500 square meters. The space was conceived as a next-generation exhibition venue: a fully equipped white cube. The permanent collection, meanwhile, is currently awaiting relocation to another space.
