The Street Project is part of I Giardini d’Arte di Via Caravaggio, although in this case the artistic intervention extended beyond the boundaries of the company, taking place on the railway wall that runs alongside the municipal road where Carlo Maresca S.p.A. is located .
The aim of the project was to enhance an abandoned area of the city and transform it into a sort of open-air art gallery.
The works were created by six writers of international background, who delivered a large-scale artistic intervention to the Adriatic capital: six panels measuring 2 meters in height and 3 meters in width.
The artists involved were Antonello Piccinino (MACS); the collective Bane & Pest, composed of Swiss artist Fabian Florin and Cypriot artist Yiannis Hadjipanayis; Giorgio Bartocci; the French artist of Spanish origin Juan Pablo de Ayguavives (Popay); Manuel Di Rita (Peeta); and the duo Vincenzo Mastroiorio and Maria Teresa Checchia, known as Caktus & Maria.
The interventions differ significantly from one another, ranging from the more conceptual approaches of Giorgio Bartocci, Peeta, and Popay to the more figurative language of Bane & Pest, MACS, and Caktus & Maria.
The project was made possible thanks to the artist Antonello Piccinino, who acted as mediator with the invited writers, and through the collaborations established by Carlo Maresca S.p.A. with the Municipality of Pescara and the Italian State Railways Group. Unfortunately, due to acts of vandalism, Carlo Maresca S.p.A. decided — with great regret—to dismantle the panels. At present, solutions are being evaluated in order to restore the intervention by the six writers.
