Curated by Danio Ruffini.
The YAG/garage gallery presents Ricordo notturno (Nocturnal Memory), a solo exhibition by Maura Prosperi, curated by Danio Ruffini.
Maura Prosperi’s artistic research unfolds through an ongoing dialogue between nature and artifice, giving rise to hybrid forms and imaginary presences that defy conventional classifications. Starting from painting, the artist experiments with synthetic materials, transparent surfaces, and found objects, developing a visual language that spans different techniques and materials. The result is an imaginary world in which organic and artificial elements intertwine, giving tangible form to images and impressions emerging from the artist’s inner world.
In Ricordo notturno, memory and imagination reshape our perception of the familiar world. In darkness, forms lose their recognisable features, and memories resurface in unexpected guises. Undefined creatures and organisms inhabit a suspended dimension where past and present merge and familiar points of reference are called into question, raising questions about identity, memory, and the search for one’s place in the world.
The exhibition explores the relationship between what we perceive and what emerges from the collective unconscious. These presences take on an ambiguous character, oscillating between attraction and unease, familiarity and estrangement. Personal and shared meanings overlap, making even what initially appears distant seem recognisable. The upside-down world evoked by the artist thus takes shape as a reality that mirrors the anthropomorphic world, offering a possible refuge from it.
Ricordo notturno invites visitors to explore this universe of shifting forms and perceptions, where memory does more than preserve the past: it actively transforms the way we interpret reality.
