Curated by Ivan D’Alberto

TRAME is the title of the exhibition by young artist Andrea Clementi, organized by YAG/garage, the contemporary art gallery based in Pescara, and hosted at Studio Zecchillo (former Studio Piero Manzoni) in Milan. The exhibition will open on April 19, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and will be preceded by a talk held at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Alongside the artist, the talk will feature Ivan D’Alberto, curator of the exhibition and director of YAG/garage; Sergio Nannicola, professor of Decoration at the Academy; and Francesco Pozzi, journalist for Rivista Segno.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between YAG/garage, the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and Studio Zecchillo (former Studio Piero Manzoni).

Andrea Clementi will present a site-specific work that will take shape throughout the duration of the exhibition. The opening will be marked by two performative moments (one at 4:00 PM and one at 6:00 PM), and the actions will be repeated in the days that follow (until May 3, the day before the exhibition closes). The aim is to create a “dynamic” work that will evolve and transform over time, “growing” and progressively occupying more of the exhibition space.

Andrea Clementi’s work lies halfway between an artistic practice of an “artisan” nature —according to the romantic idea of homo faber (man as maker, capable of creating, constructing, and transforming the environment and reality in which he lives)—and a plesiomorphic character that recalls an original, ancestral “design” to which every individual is connected.

The trame created through the interweaving of ropes are a metaphor for the relational dynamics that each person nurtures in everyday life—a mechanism that accompanies us throughout our existence. These are “drawings” with a circular development which, in addition to evoking the bond each individual has with the cosmos, present a rich symbolic dimension, as they indicate the unity between the individual and the whole, and the connection between what lies at the “center” and what is “peripheral.”
Drawing inspiration from Eastern philosophies, Andrea Clementi recovers primary forms, creating large -scale environmental installations in which the cosmos is represented with humankind/the artist at its center—the pivotal element around which everything gravitates. His careful and meticulous practice fuels, in the creation of the trame, a sort of hypnotic creative process that does not belong solely to the artist but also involves the viewer, who becomes “entangled” and “trapped” in the manual practices en acted by the artist.
During the performative moments, artist and audience enter into direct contact with one another, as they perceive themselves as part of the same universe: the energy released by Andrea Clementi’s “mandalas” activates a connection between the inner world an d the outer world. The creative process originates with the artist and “envelops” those who follow and observe him in his artisanal practice.
