Mehmet Ali Boran

Mehmet Ali Boran was born in 1981 in Mardin (Kızıltepe) and graduated in Ceramics from Sakarya University in 2007. His multidisciplinary practice includes video art, installation, performance, ceramics, and “video -novels,” delving into themes such as belonging, displaceme nt, cultural memory, and environmental destruction.
Boran critically examines new security systems, public surveillance, and the boundaries between urban and rural areas, revealing the tension between control and freedom. Since 2017, he has co -founded and coorganized the “Contemporary Art Talks” at Mişar Art in Mardin, where he continues to live and work.
He has participated in international events such as the 3rd Çanakkale Biennale (2012) and the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2021). His solo exhibitions include Zakkumun Kökü (2021, Istanbul) and Dudakların…toprakları değildir (2022, Mardin), narrative investigations into war, love, and collective memory. In 2023, he took part in YAG/Garage International – Turchia in Pescara, presenting photographic and video installations capable of redefining local space and history.
