Alondra Garza is an artist born in the Rio Grande Valley at the border between Texas and Mexico. She earned a BFA from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and an MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her interdisciplinary practice explores the identity and cultural challenges of her bi -national experience, working across painting, sculpture, photography, and installation. Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Mexico, and Italy, with solo and group shows in institutions such a s the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Walker Art Center, and YAG/Garage in Italy. She is the founder of the unconventional gallery SEMILLAS, which promotes Latine and BIPOC artists, and serves as curator at Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES), a nonprofit organization supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2022, she received the Visual Arts Fund grant from the Warhol Foundation for SEMILLAS. In 2023, she curated the exhibition “Inventadas,” presented in collaboration with Franconia Sculpture Park, which explores themes of gender and resistance through works by Latine and non-binary artists.
