Andia Coral Newton

Andia Coral Newton (nata nel 1998 a Croydon, Regno Unito) è un’artista e project coordinator con base a Londra, che lavora principalmente nei campi del tessile, dell’arte sonora e dell’installazione. Her practice focuses on the psychological preservation of the self, storytelling through contemporary textiles, and the conceptual decoupling between human beings and nature—a process which, according to Andia, has contributed to the deterioration of mental and physical wellbeing in the UK. Primarily a weaver, her research also investi gates the interconnection between textile production and gender, and therefore the way we collectively perceive Art History in relation to craft, industrialization, and domestic practices.
Throughout their lives, humans engage with their bodies, everyday domestic environments, and the planet we all share. Andia’s works use graphic textile symbols to represent these relationships, employing them as a language to explore human fears, hopes, and desires. While employing traditional techniques and historical references, the concerns she addresses through her art are strongly future -oriented. Her work has been exhibited in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany.
