Antonio Gualtieri Paternò (Teramo, 1996) is a contemporary painter who lives and works in his hometown. He studied at the “Montauti” Art High School and earned a degree in DAMS (Disciplines of Arts, Music and Performing Arts) at the University of Teramo, where he is currently attending the Master’s program in Media, Arts and Culture.
His first solo exhibition, Io vidi cose (L’Arca, Teramo, May 2022), curated by Martina Lolli, featured rarefied and monochrome canvases arranged in three rooms, inviting viewers to “think about not seeing” and to breathe within the invisible. The exhibition combined theoretical references from Derrida, Fantin, Eliot, and Rauschenberg, proposing a painting practice of silences and subtractions.
Previously, he participated in local group shows such as Ànemos and Lavori in corso in 2019, echoing the French support/surface avant-garde. His practice is rooted in a meditative minimalism: white or lightly marked surfaces that become spaces for inner reflection. Antonio creates a dialogue between emptiness and presence, encouraging the viewer to rediscover the depth of the visi ble through essential and silent forms.
