Freya Gascoyne, born in 2002, is a queer artist currently based in London. Their inherently interdisciplinary practice spans painting, research, collecting, drawing, composition, performance, suspension, tension, and experimentation. An exploration of iden tity – particularly queerness and gender – now forms the foundation of multiple aspects of their work. Alongside paintings depicting queer bodies, Freya plays with the concept of tenderness and care through performance and collaborates on creative research projects with the queer community. Inspired by ideas of transformation and plurality, their works draw on formative teenage experiences and ongoing revelations found on the dance floors of London’s queer raves. Their painting, colorful and poised between abstraction and figuration, reveals expansive universes created through queer bodies that love and live.
