Lucia Lupi, an architect and urban planner trained in Rome, has developed a visual research practice that merges photography with urban studies, a pursuit she began during her university years. Since 2010, her numerous travels and artist residencies in Morocco, India, and the United Kingdom have broadened her perspective, incorporating themes of interaction between the environment and technology, and employing ethnography as a creative method.
Her photographic series Living/Leaving MK (2021), shot in Milton Keynes, is a clear expression of this approach, featuring miniature photographs and slideshows that explore iconic architecture and urban landscapes. Her return to Abruzzo after 17 years marks the beginning of a new dialogue with th e territory and its inhabitants, bringing fresh cultural resonances into her work. With a distinctly conceptual style, Lucia investigates the utopias and dystopias of the contemporary city, revealing invisible connections between desire and urban reality.
