Mary Samele (Canosa di Puglia, 1980) is a visual artist and special effects designer who has built a career between art and cinema. Graduating in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Puglia and specializing in set design and artistic make-up in Naples, she brought her skills to the film industry, working as a prosthetic make up artist on major international productions – including Marvel’s Black Widow. Alongside her film work, Samele maintains a strong connection to contemporary art: in 2022 she was invited to exhibit at Fuori/Cromia, a group show organized by YAG/Garage. On that occasion, she presented an installation focused on the “body -object,” a theme closely linked to her make-up design practice, where the body becomes a canvas. Mary runs her own studio and shares projects on Instagram ranging from artistic body painting to transformations for theatre and photography. Her versatility has earned her awards in the special effects sector and growing recognition as a figurative artist, able to merge the aesthetics of make-up with a conceptual vision.
