Nurgül Gökçen

Nurgül Gökçen (born in 1997 in Burdur, Turkey) is a contemporary sculptor based in Istanbul. She studied Sculpture at Hacettepe University (Ankara, 2016–2021), spending a period in Carrara (Academy of Fine Arts, 2018–19), and completed a Master’s degree at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2022. In 2021, she undertook an Erasmus internship with sculptor Fabio Viale in Turin. She creates marble sculptures, such as the series Dimensions I and Dimensions II (2023), presented in the group exhibition Crossroads 6 in Istanbul. In 2023, she received the prestigious Süreyya Ağaoğlu Sculpture Award at the Elgiz Contemporary Art Museum in Istanbul. She has exhibited in important group shows such as the Mamut Art Project 2022 in Istanbul and, again in 2023, Crossroads and Polarity at the Elgiz Museum. Her artistic practice combines the classical tradition of marble sculpture with a contemporary and experimental sensibility.
